About Shogun Cagefighting

Our Mission

Shogun Cagefighting is a fighting organization formed by fight fans to bring quality MMA entertainment to Middle Tennessee. Our group is composed of fighters, trainers, and MMA fight fans who want to provide an excellent environment for fighters and exciting competition for local MMA fans.

We look forward to providing the best MMA fighting championships and being a springboard to greatness for up and coming fighters.

Our History

Our organization consists of fans and fighters in training, with experience in Jimmy McMurtrie's Kentucky Fighting Championships, AAU boxing in California, and the United States Army.

Our interest in starting our organization was piqued after a tremendous fight experience at a Jimmy McMurtrie fight in Kentucky. We strive to emulate his example in organizing quality MMA competitions in Middle Tennessee.

Our Events

Our events are planned to be mixed martial arts competitions of the highest order, combined with a unique brand of showmanship that will provide additional entertainment for the spectators. We want them to come back for a lot of different reasons. Good sportsmanship will be mandatory.

We want to put at least two female bouts on each card and we also want to host a Silver Division (50+ years old) for more "experienced" fighters, fielding one or two bouts per card. We want to showcase many forms of martial arts and will consider hosting grappling only matches, traditional boxing matches, and weapons exhibitions or competitions. The wider the appeal, the more fans we can draw to each event.

We plan to have a rousing start for the show, which will include a salute to our military, veterans, and their families, and recognition of VIPs. We will have a salute to the fighters, including a display of the Shogun katana, and our "Strength and Honor!" salute. Then we'll have a live or recorded presentation of the national anthem.

There will be concurrent events and performances such as live bands, drumlines, and tattoo contests. Shogun Cagefighting merchandise and fight club merchandise will be sold and there may be iPod giveaways and other contests. (Over 21 years old venues may feature age appropriate contests and entertainment.)

Fighters will be eligible for medals, trophies, and belts. There will be giveaways for fighters, plus the opportunity to earn money as commission on ticket sales. We will eventually recognize Best Fight of the Night, Best Kick, Best Punch, Best Reversal, Best Takedown, Best Submission, Best Sportsman, and Grittiest Performance. (May not all be awarded at every event.) We will insure that prizes and giveaways do not affect a fighter's amateur status (if applicable).

All in all, our plan is to put on events that put butts in the seats and highlight the skills and training of the fighters.
